This is something I started wondering about a few months ago when a friend mentioned that where you park your car regularly can actually affect how long your battery lasts and I honestly had no idea that was even a thing to consider. I have been living in an apartment building in Dubai for about two years now and my designated parking spot is in the basement which I always thought was a good thing because at least the car is not sitting outside baking in the sun all day. But my battery gave up on me recently after only about sixteen months which felt way too soon for a replacement that should reasonably last two to three years at least. When I mentioned this to a guy at the service center he said basement parking comes with its own set of problems that most people do not think about and that surprised me quite a bit. He mentioned things like poor ventilation, humidity that builds up in enclosed underground spaces, and temperature fluctuations that happen when the concrete around the parking area absorbs and releases heat throughout the day. I went home and decided to actually read properly about this because I wanted to understand it beyond just a quick conversation and I found a useful page about why batteries fail faster in Dubai basement parking situations specifically and the advice there was to click here to explore the full breakdown of contributing factors which I did and it genuinely filled in a lot of gaps in my understanding. What stood out to me was learning that humidity and trapped heat in basement garages can accelerate corrosion on battery terminals much faster than open air parking and that this kind of slow invisible damage is often what causes a battery to fail well before its expected lifespan. I always assumed underground meant cooler and safer but the reality here in Dubai is more complicated than that. Going to start checking my terminals more regularly and maybe ask about a protective spray the service guy mentioned.
