My company is transferring me from Abu Dhabi to a new office in another emirate, which means I have to move my entire life several hundred kilometers away. I’m excited about the new opportunity, but I’m really stressed about the logistics of the move, especially because I have two cats who do not enjoy car rides. I’m trying to figure out how to pack my belongings in a way that keeps everything safe while also keeping my cats calm and comfortable during the drive. I know I need to keep the cats in carriers for safety, but they meow and cry the whole time, which is Practical ways to ensure items arrive intact distracting. I also have some fragile items family photos, a glass display case, some electronics – that I’m worried about. I’ve been looking for advice on how to pack a vehicle for a long drive so that nothing shifts or falls over when I brake or turn. I’ve learned that packing smartly means putting heavier items on the bottom, using soft items like blankets as padding between boxes, and making sure nothing is loose that could become a projectile in a sudden stop. I’m also thinking about whether I should hire professional movers for some items or try to do everything myself. The professional option is expensive but might be worth it for peace of mind. For anyone who has done a long distance move within the UAE what worked well for you? What would you do differently if you had to do it again? And if you moved with pets, do you have any tips for keeping them calm during the drive? I want this move to go as smoothly as possible for everyone involved, humans and cats alike.
